RA CONDITIONS OF ELIGIBILITY

2024-25 APPLICANT ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • To be eligible to go through the RA process, you must:
    • Be a Full-Time Student at Randall University
    • Have an RU cumulative GPA of at least 2.75 GPA and completed 24 RU credits by the end of Spring 2024.
    • RAs must be able to attend mandatory training (August 4 -August 14, 2024, and January 14 – 15, 2025).
    • Know and Enforce the Student Code of Conduct
    • Be in good conduct and financial standing with Randall University

The Resident Assistant shall have received Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. The Resident Assistant shall agree to and sign the Biblical Foundations Statement of the University. The RA shall be a member in good standing of a local Church. He/she shall be a person of spiritual maturity with academic and leadership abilities that will allow him/her to represent an institution of higher learning. The Resident Assistant shall reflect the purpose of the University.

TIMELINE of Application Process

  • March 4 – March 29: RA position posts open.
  • March 29: The RA position closes at 11:59 p.m.
  • April 1-5: Interviews Scheduled and Conducted (approximately 20 minutes in length)
  • April 15 – Position offers sent
  • April 22 – Position offers accepted

RA APPLICATION PROCESS REQUIREMENTS

  • Eligible candidates must be able to attend an interview (April 3, April 4 or April 5 between noon – 4:00 pm) during the application process. Each candidate will be asked to sign up for an interview time for one of those three days and times.
  • Candidates offered a position will be required to participate in a RA meeting individually with the Director of Student Affairs and Campus Director before the end of the semester
  • Candidates offered a position must be available to attend all of the required training (August 4 – August 14, 2024, and January 14 – January 15, 2025)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE POSITION:

The Resident Assistant (RA) shall prayerfully help students make the adjustment to campus living by demonstrating Christian love and concern for students, enforcing the Student Handbook, being available to students in the dorms, and planning and participating in Student Life activities.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

ACADEMIC: The RA is expected to serve as an academic role model for residents; orient students to Randall University student services; encourage behavior that contributes to academic success; refer residents to proper academic advising; and establish a community environment that supports residents’ rights to sleep and study. The RA is expected to engage residents in meaningful conversations about Christianity, choices, relationships, and their trajectory as they relate to academic goals, pursuits, and challenges.

ADMINISTRATIVE: The RA is responsible for operational and administrative duties such as assisting in move-in and move-out procedures; documenting all alleged policy violations; completing necessary paperwork and reports; completing duty responsibilities; reporting and following up on maintenance needs; and promptly attending designated meetings.

CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT: In order to establish a cohesive community, the RA is expected to personally know their residents and be aware of their needs and interests in order to encourage skill and spiritual development. The RA is personally available to all residents; provides opportunities for interaction and promotes resident involvement; engages intentionally with residents to build relationships both with and between residents; supports student leadership; calls and facilitates community meetings; facilitates inclusive and welcoming communities; acts as a role model to residents; and mediates conflict when necessary. The RA must be approachable and display a genuine interest in the welfare and personal development of residents. The RA promotes formal and informal Christ-centered support programs such as small-group Bible studies, accountability groups, and prayer groups for all those in their communities.

POLICY ENFORCEMENT: The RA is responsible for the consistent enforcement of all Randall University policies, as well as applicable state and federal laws. This involves the RA maintaining accurate knowledge of The Student Code of Conduct, educating residents as necessary, and modeling behavior consistent with Randall University. The RA works to establish an environment that promotes personal responsibility and encourages participation in upholding policies. The RA is expected to engage residents in meaningful conversations about choices and the impact of choices on relationships, identity, and trajectory.

 RESOURCE AND REFERRAL: The RA is responsible for referring residents to the appropriate Randall University and community resources as they manage academic and personal issues. Referrals require the RA to be knowledgeable about resources, responsive to requests, and available for follow-up. The RA is expected to respond immediately to bad situations and work collaboratively with supervisors in resolving crises.

TEAMWORK: The RA is responsible for contributing to positive working relationships; participating as a team member in achieving the stated goals of the staff and the Residential Life unit; cooperating with staff members and supporting the team on University projects and initiatives; demonstrating an acceptance for differences in style; and establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with custodial, dining, desk, facilities maintenance and other Randall University personnel.
