Shirley is a native Oklahoman but spent 44 years as a career missionary to Brazil with International Missions of Free Will Baptists. From 1980-1985, she and her husband, Jim, took a leave of absence to move to the Randall University campus and serve as professors, Director of Missions, and Directors of Student Affairs. While in Brazil, the Combs’ three Brazilian-born children attended Randall University. Since then, three of their Brazilian-born grandchildren have attended the university, and another grandchild currently attends. Since Shirley’s father also attended the university when it first started in Tulsa, she proudly claims to be a fourth generation family connected with Randall!
Outside of her dedication to the RU family, Shirley loves to serve in ministries with women, children, and families. She is a speaker and author and loves to spend time with her family and international friends. Each year she is invited to minister in her beloved Brazil.
