Patti Ashby grew up in Newport News, VA where she graduated from Christopher Newport College with a degree in English Literature. After teaching elementary students for four years at Peninsula Christian School, she married Dr. Stephen Ashby and became a pastor’s wife. While in a local church in North Carolina, she began a master’s degree in Library Science.
After the Ashbys relocated to Grand Rapids, MI, Mrs. Ashby completed her Library Science degree and began her career as a college librarian. Throughout the years, she continued as a librarian at various Christian colleges in Virginia, Ohio, and Indiana. She also completed a second Master of Library Science degree through Kent State University while living and working in Ohio. In total, Mrs. Ashby has spent over 35 years working in higher education.
In 1994, the Ashbys adopted their son, Serogia, from Russia when he was four years old. In 2002, the Lord led them to what was then Hillsdale Free Will Baptist College (now Randall University). They were thrilled with the opportunity to serve the Lord at a Free Will Baptist College. Although Dr. Ashby has had to retire early for health reasons, the Ashbys remain committed to Christian higher education as demonstrated at Randall University.
