In addition to her work in helping to establish the Infopoverty Institute (2004) at the University of Oklahoma, College of Continuing Education, Dr. Jan Chatham Simmons co-founded and directed the Center for the Study of Small/Rural Schools (1991) and the National Conference Logistics Center (1996) (now ConferencePros) at the University of Oklahoma (OU). In the years since their inception, NCLC and CSSRS programs and professional staff have won many awards for innovation and performance. Her work with the Public Service Institute and Infopoverty Institute dealt with developing sustainable programs that promote the availability of and culturally-relevant use of Internet access in very remote areas of the world. Simmons has negotiated and administered more than $23M in federal and state grants, is co-editor of three books, author of peer-reviewed publications and presentations, and serves as peer reviewer for several publications and federal grants.
Dr. Simmons has been married since 1979 to Bill Simmons. They have three grown children (Bill’s children, technically) who all reside in West Virginia, and seven grandkids.
